Recently, I initiated a discussion with several of my social media followers to understand what brings them a sense of inspiration in the current moment. The responses were diverse, encompassing aspects such as family, meaningful relationships, purposeful work, sustenance, joy, and the companionship of pets.
However, a discernible pattern emerged in some of the responses. Despite the various challenges we’ve faced in our electoral processes, legislative safeguards, and constitutional protections, and in the face of disillusionment with elected officials, church leaders, and legal authorities, a considerable number of individuals seem to be relying on external forces or figures to bring about positive change.
Statements like “I believe that Love wins,” “I have faith that things will be made right,” and “I trust that goodness will persevere” reflect a prevalent sentiment that love, a higher power, or some external force will steer us towards a positive outcome. Nevertheless, the reality is more intricate than a mere appeal or prayer.
Contrary to popular expressions, love will not emerge victorious on its own. Positive change necessitates the active engagement of courageous and empathetic individuals within the political process, challenging broken systems, and exemplifying sacrificial love.
The potency of love is not an elusive force beyond our reach. Rather, it demands hard work and tangible actions that contribute to the well-being of our families, neighbors, and strangers. Love becomes meaningful when it transitions from an abstract concept to a practical and measurable expression.
Irrespective of personal beliefs, anticipating a supernatural intervention to rectify issues is not a practical solution. Whether it’s a collective sense of humanity, the interconnectedness of the universe, or any other perceived force holding the world together, effecting change requires a decisive and sustained effort from compassionate human beings.
Those of us propelled by moral convictions and guided by our inner values must actively address societal challenges. This involves sacrificing personal comforts, relationships, and even sleep to confront issues and work collaboratively toward viable solutions. Acknowledging our imperfections, we, as flawed agents of positive change, bear the responsibility to contribute to a better world.
Mere thoughts or expressions of goodwill, as evidenced in various political contexts, fall short of addressing the issues at hand. What truly makes a difference is thoughtful individuals reflecting on societal challenges and committing to tangible actions — actions that embody their beliefs for the greater good.
While there may be unseen and immeasurable aspects at play, our ability to take physical actions — such as aiding, healing, giving, advocating, volunteering, participating in community initiatives, and exercising our voting rights — is within our control. By focusing on the immediate and tangible, we can actively contribute to positive change with the resources entrusted to us.
Believing in a higher power or love is commendable, but belief alone is insufficient. Our convictions need to be translated into actions for the betterment of the community. Love cannot achieve victory solely on abstract principles; it requires us to live in a way that ensures love, expressed through practical actions, emerges triumphant.
